Stiffkey's tight cluster of old Norfolk cottages and farmhouses sits in a valley that funnels wind and rain, putting particular stress on the leadwork around chimneys, valleys, and lean-to extensions.
Many of Stiffkey's dwellings are centuries old — low-pitched pantile roofs on flint cottages, brick farmhouses with multiple chimney stacks, and single-storey outbuildings that have been converted to living space over the years. These transitions between roof planes and abutments are exactly where lead flashings work hardest and fail first, especially where old sand-and-cement pointing has cracked and allowed water behind the upstand.
We've repointed and re-dressed lead on several properties in the village and know that shortcuts here simply don't last in this climate. All our Stiffkey leadwork is carried out to BS EN 12588 standards, and we always rake out and repoint mortar chases properly before fixing new lead. Get in touch for a no-obligation inspection.
